LADWP - Multi-Family Residence Submetering Initiative

Please make plans to attend.  Your critical input will be much appreciated.   - WrW

AIA/LA BP&R and COTE present...
a meeting with Los Angeles Department of Water & Power
to discuss the Multi-Family Residence Submetering Initiative

Tuesday, March 3, 2009 (6-8pm)
AIA Los Angeles
3780 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 800
Los Angeles, CA  90010

Very Limited Capacity.  RSVP to will@aialosangeles.org

This roundtable discussion will serve as an opportunity for the architecture & design community to provide in-depth/critical feedback on the LADWP Multi-Metering Feasibility Study (see attached report).
LADWP is proposing to revise City building and plumbing codes to require individual meters in all new construction of multi-dwelling units.

Staff members of LADWP Environmental Affairs Division have contacted AIA/LA requesting candid input from architects on the feasibility of implementing such a program.
Please make plans to review the attached report and provide your critical analysis of the proposal.  Special attention should be made to the unintended complications that such a regulation would impose.  Is it worth it?  Is it wise?  Is there a more effective means to water conservation for multi-family residential development??  Your perspective will be much appreciated.

LADWP feels that sub-metering is an important water conservation opportunity, yet recognizes the challenges of adopting a sub-metering regulation, such as, cost of construction impacts and other significant risks and liabilities.

Ideally, this roundtable will kick-off a series of quarterly meetings between AIA/LA & LADWP that will serve as opportunities for us to further shape environmental & energy policy.
