This presentation will provide a technical update on the California Green Building Code and will establish a working framework for how architects and engineers can help provide feedback as LADBS begins their roadmap to implementation for the CIty's building code.

  1. When considering your state's Green Building Code, one should recognize all credible 3rd party forestry certification standards (such as the Sustainable Forestry Initiative- SFI), unlike the current LEED standard.

    Take a look at this petition demanding changes to the LEED green building standard which has received broad support from forestry experts and government officials

    Only 10% of the world’s forests are certified, but the USGBC’s oversight doesn’t account for many of these forests because they only account for FSC certified forests in their LEED rating system. This needs to be changed because, for example, more than three-quarters of North American certified forests are certified to the SFI, ATFS or CSA.
