Revised City Sign Ordinance now available for review

Dear AIA/LA POC members:

The proposed new city sign ordinance has been made public by the city planning department and will be discussed at the City Planning Commission on Thursday, January 22, 2009 (9am) in Van Nuys City Hall, Council Chamber, 2nd Floor.

Please communicate your critical feedback on the proposed revised sign ordinance by Monday, January 19th so that I can coordinate a letter with the AIA/LA Board of Directors on the Chapter's analysis of the revised ordinance.

Highlights of proposed changes to the sign ordinance include:

1.  Eliminating the distinction between on-site and off-site signs
2.  Banning all digital billboards and signs
3.  Significantly reducing amount of signage allowed
4.  Requiring significant reduction of overall signage in sign districts.

To read the text of the ordinance and supporting material:

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Very truly yours,

Will Wright
Director, Government & Public Affairs.
