AIA|LA invites you to attend the DESIGNING HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES symposium.
When: October 7, 2011 from 8:00 am - 12:30 pm
Where: 100 W 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90012
The health evidence continues to mount: obesity rates, obesity-related chronic diseases and costs associated with treating these diseases are all growing. How can transformations in the planning and design of communities, streets, and buildings help address this growing epidemic? In addition to inspiring people to be more physically active, healthier community design can reduce air pollution and injuries, attract people and businesses, grow economic development, and create jobs. More than ever, people are putting a premium on places that offer transportation choices, recreation opportunities, and healthy, fresh food options.
In the first of an ongoing series, AIA|LA, the LA Department of City Planning, and the LA County Dept of Public Health are inviting architects, policy makers, planners, urban designers, developers and public health professionals to discuss innovative strategies, resources, tools and policies that can help create healthier communities. An evolving design/planning/health collaboration is vital to sustaining the momentum and political will for projects that can make our communities healthier, sustainable and economically resilient.
